Obituary

Sherry Lynn Solomon, age 89, passed away on June 19, 2026. She was born on February 20, 1937, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026, at LaBrie Claybar Funeral Services in Beaumont. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Big Woods Cemetery in Vinton, Louisiana.

Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026, at LaBrie Claybar Funeral Services in Beaumont.

From a young age, Sherry showed creative abilities which she put to use her entire life. She became a professional pianist/vocalist, award winning poet, and an award winning artist.

She dedicated her professional work life to the world of literature, serving as the Assistant Director of the University of Texas Press and was honored to work in the book publishing department.

As a loving, caring mother, she allowed her children the freedom to grow, make their own mistakes and live their lives without interference. She was a devoted caregiver to various family members throughout her life, often making sacrifices for others. In addition to loving friends and family, she loved animals. Her strong, loyal and vivacious spirit touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, William and Velma McFatter; her grandson, Lance Ellis; and her best friend, Helen Otto Hayes.

Sherry is survived by her son, Casey Ward and his wife Gail; her daughters, Wanda Ortiz and her husband Ramiro, Cindy McNeill and her husband Randy, and Kimberly Ellis. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, with one on the way. She is further survived by her dear friend Helen’s children, Vikki Owens, Christi Skrovan, and Tina Marie Boyles, and numerous other loving family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Casey Ward, Sr., Nathan Ortiz, Brian Manry, Casey Ward, Jr., Nicholas Ward, and Derek Aguilar.
