Joyce Frances Chesser Head

Joyce Frances Chesser Head, 97, of Beaumont and Houston, died June 21, 2023. She would have celebrated her 98th birthday in September. During the Covid pandemic Joyce resided in Cypress with her family. For the last 20 months she was a resident of Bayou Manor Healthcare Center in Houston.

Born and raised in Beaumont, she graduated from Beaumont High School. During WWII she worked for Western Union in California, Oklahoma, and New York as a teletype operator. After the war, she married Raymond A. Head and raised two children – Cathy and Ray. Joyce was a long time Presbyterian and current member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She was always actively involved in church leadership and activities from Deacon, Elder, and Board of Trustees. She participated for years in Church Woman United and was president of the organization during its final year. Joyce volunteered at Some Other Place and was a leader for her children’s activities and clubs, including church youth groups. She was known as an excellent seamstress and cook. Her homemade fudge and pecan pies were favorites of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and son, Ray.

Survivors include daughter, Cathy Head Broun and husband, T. Taylor Broun III, of Cypress, Texas; and grandson, Thorowgood T. Broun IV and soon-to-be wife, Andrea Morrison; and great-grandson, Thorowgood Taylor Broun V of Houston, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont, Texas.
