James was born in Tipton, Indiana on September 3, 1963, the son of John Cloud and Joyce Rice-Cloud. He worked passionately as a master plumber for many years up until his retirement. In his spare time he enjoyed tending to his flower beds. James was one of a kind. He was stubborn to a fault, and strong willed as they come, but when he loved you, he loved you fully. You never had to doubt his affection for you. He loved to make others smile and surrounded his friends and family with laughter, constantly cracking jokes. James had a knack for anticipating the needs of others, and worked hard until whatever job needed doing got done. He was a wonderful man, who will always stay in the hearts of those that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joyce Cloud.

He is survived by his adoring partner of 17 years, David Matthews; siblings, Janet Cloud and Jerald Cloud; and sibling- in-laws, Ludessa M. Porter, Shirley L. Matthews, and Bishop Larry D. Matthews.

Preceding him in death are his brothers Johnathan Cloud and Jeffery Cloud, sister in law Lucille Matthews Smith, brother in law Elmore Matthews, and mother in law, Emma Matthews Simmons
