Dorothy Maxine Puckitt Hext

Dorothy Maxine Puckitt Hext was born in Jasper, Texas April 28, 1928 to Henry and Fay Puckitt. She went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2019.

Funeral services will be 1:30, with a visitation starting at 12:30p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Sabine Tabernacle in Beaumont. Officiating will be Reverend Clarence Day of Sabine Tabernacle. Burial will be 3:30p.m. at Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper County..

Dorothy worked for most of her life. Her first job at age 12 was at the five & dime in Jasper. She moved to Beaumont from Jasper when she was 17 and was employed to rivet oil drums for the war effort. Her next job was as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and she retired after 37 years of service. She was an artist and would sketch her co-workers portraits during down time and also painted in oils and enjoyed going to her painting classes. After retirement she started a small business sewing professionally. Dorothy was a very creative person and she made most her own and her family's clothing for many years. She was married to Forrest Hext for 60 years. She loved her church, the Sabine Tabernacle, and was a very active member for almost 70 years. Dorothy had many church parties in her home and loved preparing spaghetti dinners for her friends.

For the last three years of Dorothy's life she lived in Northern California to be near her children and her granddaughter. She enjoyed being able to go to school functions and also sew and bake with her granddaughter. She lived at Villa San Ramon in San Ramon, California and made many friends there. She enjoyed having art shows of her oil paintings of landscapes and flowers. She was also known for sketching people's faces and then presenting them with the finished portrait. She spent time regularly with a Bible study group and attended John Knox Presbyterian church with her friends from Villa San Ramon.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Forrest and her sister Dolores "Sheddy" McClelland. She is survived by her sons Ronald and Craig, her daughter Fay Koupal, son-in-law Bob and granddaughter Olivia, sisters Lorene Sanders, Audrey Morgan, and Laura Levassar, brother Donald Puckitt and sister-in-law Martha, and many nieces and nephews.
